What is a DARWIN?
A DARWIN is a financial asset that replicates a trader's strategy, with risk controlled by Darwinex.
01
The trader trades
The professional makes trading decisions in their own account.
02
Darwinex adjusts risk
Turns the strategy into a DARWIN with independently managed risk.
03
You invest in the DARWIN
From your own account, you share in its gains and losses without sending money to the trader.
Risk management does not protect against all losses or guarantee returns.
In simple words
Imagine you could "copy" a trader with years of track record, without him ever managing your money. That's a DARWIN: a synthetic index that follows every $CLT trade in real time.
How it works
- The professional trader trades his own Darwinex account with his strategy.
- Darwinex creates the $CLT index, which replicates those trades.
- Darwinex adjusts the risk so it's always the same (6.5% monthly VaR target).
- You invest in the index from your own account, and your capital mirrors the results proportionally.
Why is this setup safe?
- Your money is in your account, in your name. The trader never has access to it.
- Darwinex is regulated by the FCA (UK) and the CNMV (Spain).
- Every trade is recorded on Darwinex: the track record cannot be edited.
- You can withdraw whenever you want.
Risk
6.5% VaR with 95% probability
Risk is the first thing any investor should understand. Here it is, without jargon.
What does it mean?
VaR (Value at Risk) measures how much you could lose in a "normal" month. A 6.5% monthly VaR at 95% means that in 95 out of 100 months the loss should not exceed 6.5% of what you invested.
And the other 5%?
In exceptional months (about 1 in 20) the loss could be larger. That's why you should only invest money you don't need short-term, with a multi-year horizon.
Constant risk, not variable
Darwinex automatically adjusts $CLT's exposure so risk stays at the same level. If the trader takes too much risk, Darwinex scales it down.
The worst recorded month was -5.69 %. This is historical data, not a guarantee about future months.
Calculate your risk
Darwinex manages risk so that in a normal month the loss stays at most around $650 (6,5 %). It is not a guaranteed limit.
Leverage: how the risk changes
Leverage multiplies losses just like gains. At 3x, the worst historical drawdown would have been about -39.93 %.
Darwinex lets investors who accept more risk turn on leverage in their portfolio, up to 3 times their capital. With 2x, every 1,000 USD invests like 2,000: VaR goes from 6.5% to 13%, and gains and losses are both doubled.

- • Once turned on, Darwinex doesn't let you turn it off in that portfolio. You can open another portfolio without leverage.
- • Not available at Darwinex Global; available at Darwinex UK and EU.
- • Figures simulated by multiplying the real month-by-month history, without financing costs. Past returns don't guarantee future results.
Safety
Your money, always under your control
There are two kinds of risk worth separating: custody risk (is my money safe?) and market risk (can my investment go down?). Here we explain both clearly.
✔ Custody risk: protected
Your money sits in your own account, in your name, at a regulated broker. Neither I nor anyone else can withdraw or move it — only you.
The trader never receives your money. He only trades his strategy and Darwinex mirrors it in your account.
⚖ Market risk: controlled
As with any investment, value can go up or down. The difference here is that Darwinex measures and limits it: a 6.5% monthly VaR target.
You decide how much to invest and can exit whenever you want. See risk explained →
What if Darwinex goes bankrupt?
Segregated accounts
Client money is kept separate from company money at tier-1 banks. If the company fails, your money is not part of its assets.
Daily reconciliation
Under the FCA's CASS regime, Darwinex must reconcile client balances daily and report any discrepancy.
Compensation scheme
Depending on the entity: FSCS (UK) up to £85,000 or FOGAIN (EU) up to €100,000 per person, for broker insolvency and also bank insolvency.
Regulation: pick your entity wisely
When you sign up you choose which Darwinex entity holds your account. Protection depends on the entity.
| Entity | Regulator | For | Deposits & withdrawals | Insolvency protection |
